NFL 2009-2010

    Now that the draft is finished, I figured it's time to start another new NFL thread.

    First things first, someone needs to do something about Al Davis. Poison his food, burn his house to the ground with him in it, something. He's killing the Raiders. Their first 2 picks were the dumbest I've ever seen. I didn't think Ted Ginn Jr. by the Dolphins could be topped, but I was wrong. That receiver would have been there in the second round and that safety would have been there in the fifth.

    That worked out well for the Niners. Crabtree shouldn't have made it that far. Now if only they had someone to throw him the ball. I don't know why they didn't take a late round stab at a QB. If I were them, I would have picked Maclin at 10 and then picked Chase Daniels in the 5th or 6th round.

    Everyone seems really excited about Maclin and LeSean McCoy for the Eagles. I mean I guess they could turn into good players, but I really don't see how they help the team right now. Neither improves the team in the redzone or in short yardage, which is where they struggled the most last year. I really wanted Pettigrew and when Andy traded up, I was sure that was who they were taking. I'm not saying the draft was bad or anything. I'm just saying I'm skeptical on how this improves the team in the immediate future.

    In my opinion, no one in the NFC East got any better through free agency or the draft, but the Eagles are the only team that didn't get any worse. I think they have to be the favorites to win the division at this point.

    Hi, my name is Shaun Hill. Last year with the 49ers I posted an 87.5 rating despite cycling through two coaches, having an offensive coordinator give me the shaft because he has a crush on JT O'Sullivan, and having a very weak receiving corps (Josh Morgan was solid as a rookie however). In six of those nine games I posted a QB rating of 90.0 or better. In my terrible game where I posted a 55.5 rating and threw 3 interceptions, I led my team on a 4th quarter comeback down 16-3 with SEVEN MINUTES TO PLAY with TD scoring drives of 80 and 67 yards.

    The year before I posted a 101.3 rating in three games. I'm going to start again next season with a playmaking receiver finally, and an offensive coordinator who appreciates who good Frank Gore is, and I will be awesome. You mother-fuckers can stay off my bandwagon when that time comes.

    Thank you and good day.
  • RCSoulRCSoul April 2009
    I'm not convinced. Shaun Hill isn't a good QB name. I'll believe you that he had a decent year last year, but I can't see a guy with a name like that becoming anything more than an average QB.
  • AerockAerock April 2009
    You do have a point there, it's not a very good QB sounding name.

    I wasn't too pleased with the rest of the 49ers draft though. I thought taking a running back was one of the last things we needed. We're really hurting on OL/DL, we should have taken something there. I don't feel like our defense has improved since last season. I'm sure it will be better with Singletary running the offseason, but we have no one intimidating other than Willis.

    I was confused when the Eagles took Maclin. I thought taking a guard might work for them a bit better. Receivers usually take a couple of years to get going, but what condition will McNabb be in by then? After last year I think the Eagles should realize they don't have much time to make another Super Bowl run, they need to get it done now. You've already got Desean Jackson coming into his own this year. I do like the fact they took a running back with the next pick, but I don't really know anything about him.

    I love Al Davis for taking that receiver. Thanks Al!

    edit: Maybe Matt Ryan is going to usher in a new era of good QBs with boring names? Time for Hill to walk through that door.

    Did you guys bring in anybody through free agency? And don't you guys have a cornerback who is really good on that defense?

    "Aerock":

    I feel like the Eagles are really deep at guard. I like Shawn Andrews and Todd Herremans and Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole are very capable back-ups. Max Jean-Gilles will probably press Herremans for the starting left guard spot in training camp. Tackle was iffy after losing John Runyan and Tre Thomas, but they addressed that in free agency by signing Stacy Andrews and trading for Jason Peters. I would have liked them to take a tackle in the first three rounds because I HATE Winston Justice, but it's cool because he'll only play if we lose two tackles because Todd Herremans can play every position on the line, so they'd shift him and bring in Jean-Gilles.

    Maclin was a very confusing pick. Pettigrew could have come in and improved the offense right now. He's a great edge blocker and a huge redzone target for McNabb. Maclin is the same player as DeSean, except a little taller, not as fast, and less experienced. And you're right in that it usually takes receivers a year or two to adapt to the jump to the NFL. Maclin doesn't make the Eagles better right now and McNabb is running out of time.

    "Aerock":

    I do like the fact they took a running back with the next pick, but I don't really know anything about him.

    I'm convinced that the Eagles drafted LeSean McCoy because his name is LeSean. Only 24 letters of the alphabet to go until the Eagles have collected all of the -eSeans. But, he's basically the same player as Westbrook, but not nearly as good a blocker, so he probably won't see much time for another season or two until he can pick that up. If he can't, he'll suffer the same fate as Ryan Moats, Tony Hunt, Lorenzo Booker, and other RBs that I'm forgetting that never figured out how to pick up the blitz. Andy values that more than running because, let's be serious, the Eagles never run the ball.

    "Aerock":

    edit: Maybe Matt Ryan is going to usher in a new era of good QBs with boring names? Time for Hill to walk through that door.

    I think Matt Ryan is starting the era of good QBs with two first names.
  • AerockAerock April 2009
    49ers haven't done much of anything in free agency unfortunately. However, we haven't lost anyone either other than (injured) Jonas Jennings.

    I didn't realize all the moves the Eagles made, including the two OL signings and I forgot all about Hobbs. Very nice moves. I would agree that Pettigrew might have been better than Maclin, but Maclin is a little less confusing to me now.

    Maybe they're stockpiling resources to nab one of the awesome QBs next year. That draft is going to be stacked at that position. Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow are all coming out.

    How did no one draft Chase Daniels or Graham Harrell?
  • AerockAerock April 2009
    Are they what qualify as awesome QBs nowadays?

    I hope we use our two first rounders next season on offensive line or something. Give Gore the holes he needs to get 1700 yards

    It's certainly better than Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez. Plus, Colt McCoy has a fantastic QB name.

    I've decided that the FAIL league is going to be an auction draft. How awesome would it be to have to bid $35 on Marc Bulger?

    I'm scared about Daunte Culpepper. He'd be really awesome in that league, but he could lose his job to Matthew Stafford at any time. Does Tony Romo get drafted in the first 3 rounds in both the FAIL league and the Head-to-Head league? I think he does. I hope Brett Farve comes out of retirement for FAIL league purposes. He'd be clutch. Awwww, man I'm so excited. That league is a great idea.
  • AerockAerock May 2009
    Since you weren't in it last season, this change won't really mean to much, but I've made it so your players lose points if they don't contribute at all. So you have to find just the right caliber player that will get touches/catches but not do anything with them. This way you couldn't just start a bunch of RBs/WRs that will never play, avoid the negative points that they can accumulate if they do well and bank your game on the QB.

    Did I ever show you the championship game?

    Shouldn't this be 2009-2010?

    This isn't really an NFL prediction, but it happens around the same time the NFL starts. I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell will be opening in theaters on Sept 25th, and it's going to be kind of a big deal.

    Yay, the puppy murderer is in Philly, not that I can really talk since the Cowboys use their stadium as an apparent halfway house. But, it's still funny given how much Rob hates him.

    I don't hate him. I just think he's a bum QB. I don't understand the move, though. He's a shitty passer, his legs aren't what they used to be, and he brings mountains of controversy and distraction. The only positive thing I can say about him is that he's definitely a better QB than AJ Feeley. Maybe that was the logic behind the move. Still when your team is an overwhelming favorite in the NFC, why would you bring in a player who is clearly a detriment to locker room? Doesn't make sense.

    Here are my Pre-Season Projections for the upcoming season:

    AFC WEST:
    1. San Diego- Healthy LT, Gates, Merroids, and Jamal Williams. I like the defense to improve under Ron Rivera. Should run away with this one.
    2. Kansas City- Will Cassell be as effective as he was in NE? No. But their better than everyone else.
    3. Denver- Jay Cutler should continue to improve in Denver... wait...
    4. Oakland- They got Lorenzo Neal which could give them a good running game. But they should have put a bow on Mike Crabtree when they let him get to SF.

    AFC NORTH:
    1. Pittsburg- Ben RAPElisburger will score whether the defense wants him to or not.
    2. Baltimore- They better hope the offense improves as their defense weakens.
    3. Cincinatti- A healthy Palmer makes a big difference.
    4. Cleveland- A QB controversy between two shitty Qb's.

    AFC EAST:
    1. New England- Brady's back.
    2. Miami- I don't think last season was a fluke.
    3. Buffalo- T.O. can only help. What else is he gonna do? Fuck up their 7-9 team chemistry?
    4. NY Jets- I like the team but not with a rookie QB, and a defense that isn't quite there.

    AFC SOUTH:
    1. Indianapolis- On the decline, but they have one more run in them.
    2. Tennessee- A QB who won't make many mistakes and a great defense.
    3. Houston- If they stay healthy, they may surprise a lot of people. They will have a winning season.
    4. Jacksonville- Tory Holt won't solve all of their passing problems.

    Wild Card: Miami and Tennessee

    NFC WEST:
    1. Arizona- Barring injury, they'll prove last season was no fluke. They're not a joke anymore.
    2. Seattle- Healthy Hasselbeck makes a big difference.
    3. San Fransisco- Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. Enough Said.
    4. St. Louis- I don't know where to start.

    NFC NORTH:
    1. Minnesota- Even if their Qb play sucks, their running game and defense can get them 10 wins.
    2. Green Bay- If their defense improves, they may win the division easily.
    3. Chicago- I don't think Jay Cutler solves their issues. They got a deep ball passer with no deep ball recievers. Even healthy, their defense has under performed. I don't think they're that much better.
    4. Detroit- Who has an easier job than Jim Schwartz? 1-15 is an improvement.

    NFC EAST:
    1. Philadelphia- Vick isn't gonna make them worse. Jackson is a beast. Good defense. But, will McNabb stay healthy? If he doesn't, then they will not make the playoffs.
    2. NY Giants- Defense and running game will get them to the playoffs.
    3. Dallas- No Coaching, a QB who has not proven he can perform in the clutch and question marks at nearly every position even if everyone stays healthy.
    4. Washington- Off season champs doesn't mean shit.

    NFC SOUTH:
    1. Atlanta- Ryan should be better and has a great TE and a running attack plus an improving defense.
    2. New Orleans- If that defense is decent, they can outscore anyone that isn't New England or Arizona.
    3. Carolina- Strong running attack but aging defense and offensive line could be a problem.
    4. Tampa Bay- They'll be picking in the top 5. Josh Freeman was a stupid pick.

    Wild Card: Ny Giants and New Orleans

    MVP- Adrian Peterson
    Defensive Player of the Year- Demarcus Ware
    Comeback Player of the Year- Tom Brady
    Rookie (Offense/Defense)- Knowshaun Moreno/ Bj Raji
    Coach of the Year- Todd Haley

    Super Bowl Pick: San Diego over Philadelphia
  • RCSoulRCSoul August 2009
    AFC WEST:
    1. San Diego - By far and away the best team in this division. That's not saying much, though.
    2. Kansas City - Matt Cassell doesn't have anything and the defense is mediocre. I'd put these guys last in any other division.
    3. Denver - This team probably wouldn't win a game in any other division.
    4. Oakland - I love how they keep using high drafts on RBs and WRs, when what they've really needed for years is an offensive line.

    AFC NORTH:
    1. Pittsburgh - Stellar defense, average offense. They better hope that offensive line is better. They might actually run into a team that can actually rush the passer in this year's playoffs.
    2. Baltimore - The defense is getting old. I liked Joe Flacco before I saw him play a game (love his name for a QB). I wish they would get some weapons for him.
    3. Cleveland - Braylon Edwards on New Years: "What's the big deal about dropping the ball?"
    4. Cincinnati - Watched one episode of Hard Knocks. This team has nothing. Nothing.

    AFC EAST:
    1. New England - Don't listen to the media. Brady looked like shit in the game against the Eagles. He'll be fine by Week 3, though.
    2. Buffalo - T.O. usually takes more than one season to destroy a locker room. In the meantime, he vastly improves that offense and I like their D if it stays healthy this year.
    3. Miami - I wasn't sold on them last year. I'm still not.
    4. NY Jets - I liked what I saw from Sanchez in the first pre-season game. I don't like much else about this team.

    AFC SOUTH:
    1. Indianapolis - Peyton = 3800+ passing yards, 25+ TDs, 10+ wins. Guaranteed.
    2. Houston - I think they have the talent to win almost any other division.
    3. Tennessee - Too many huge offseason losses. That defense isn't looking as formidable.
    4. Jacksonville - David Garrard is still their QB.

    Wild Card: Baltimore, Houston

    NFC WEST:
    1. Arizona - Loved them last year. Love them this year.
    2. Seattle - I like the TJ pickup. He fits perfect in this offense.
    3. San Fransisco - It no longer seems so lucky that Crabtree fell to them.
    4. St. Louis - Worst team in football. I could start on this team.

    NFC NORTH:
    1. Minnesota - Love their defense, love the Sage Rosenfels pickup, feel kind of good about their offense.
    2. Green Bay - Offense still good. Defense... not so much.
    3. Chicago - FYI Bears, Marvin Harrison is still available and he's better than every one of your current receivers.
    4. Detroit - Stafford looked sharp in the pre-season game I watched. Of course, the offense wasn't the big problem last year. I still don't know how they're gonna stop anyone from scoring on them.

    NFC EAST:
    1. Philadelphia - Worried about all the injuries. If this team can't get healthy before the season starts, they're in trouble.
    2. NY Giants - Defense lost three starters and their coordinator. Offense lost both starting receivers and the starting RB for when Jacobs inevitably gets hurt. Eli still sucks. All that said, I still think they contend for the division.
    3. Dallas - No Coaching, a QB who has proven he can't perform in the clutch, and question marks around every player not named DeMarcus Ware or Jason Witten.
    4. Washington - This defense scares me. This offense scares no one.

    NFC SOUTH:
    1. Atlanta - Love the Tony Gonzales pickup. This team could be really good.
    2. New Orleans - I don't think they've done enough on defense.
    3. Carolina - Jake Delhomme is still their quarterback and still absolutely sucks.
    4. Tampa Bay - They have like 14 QBs on their roster. None of them are starters. The Jon Gruden firing was retarded.

    Wild Card: Green Bay, New Orleans

    MVP -
    Defensive Player of the Year - Troy Polamalu
    Comeback Player of the Year - Daunte Culpepper... Hahahahaha! Ahhhhh... just kidding. Matt Hasselbeck.
    Rookie (Offense/Defense) - LeSean McCoy (I'm biased) / Brian Orakpo
    Coach of the Year - Mike Tomlin

    Super Bowl Pick: Philadelphia over Pittsburgh

    Haha. That's good. I'm so tired of Brett Favre. Jesus. Anyway, Looks like we pretty much agree with the divisions, but I will say you have to throw Delhomme some credit. Yes, they had an awesome defense and running game, but they went 12-4 after a 4-12 season. I'm not even saying he's a good QB but you've gotta give some credit right?

    I don't know about McKoy for ROY only b/c I think Westbrook will stay healthy enough to just own everyone in the division and won't leave a lot of time for McKoy.

    Good call on Houston I was back and forth on them and Tennessee but they lost Rosenfelds and I can't figure out why people down here think they upgraded their backup QB with Dan "Part of the Winless Lions" Orlofsky and Rex Butt Fucking Grossman. That's pretty much the only reason I left Houston out, b/c if Schaub stays on his feet, then yeah, I like Houston to at least make a push. I figure they'll go 4-2 in the division and they have a fairly easy schedule outside of a few games.

    "elvato87":

    Haha. That's good. I'm so tired of Brett Favre. Jesus.

    I really don't get the Favre signing. With that defense and AP, all they really need is a QB to come in and make a couple plays and not make too many mistakes. So of course, they go out and get the all time interception leader when they already have a guy who fits them perfectly in Sage Rosenfels. It's stupid. I seriously believe they just handed away that division with this move.

    "elvato87":

    I'll give DeAngelo Williams some credit for keeping the ball out of Delhomme's hand so often during the regular season. I can't think of a worse starting QB than him. I can think of several backup QBs around the league that are better QBs than him, though.

    "elvato87":

    I don't know about McKoy for ROY only b/c I think Westbrook will stay healthy enough to just own everyone in the division and won't leave a lot of time for McKoy.

    Like I said, it was a homer pick. But Westy is already hurt. He's gonna miss one game this season minimum because he always does. And McCoy is going to see more carries than you think even when Westy starts in an effort to keep him healthy for the playoffs.

    "elvato87":

    Schaub definitely needs to stay healthy for that team to contend for a wild card spot. Orlofsky and Grossman are a huge downgrade from Rosenfels in my opinion. Like you pointed out, they have a favorable schedule and I think they're the only team in that division that got better in the offseason, so they've got a lot going for them this year. I feel like Steve Slaton and Andre Johnson are poised to blow up this year.
  • AerockAerock August 2009
    AFC West: San Diego had a bad season last year with a drop in defense. Merriman is back, LDT might be healthier and Rivers is getting better every year. Not only that, but everyone in this division sucks.
    Oakland. I think Cable surprises people and makes this team solid. I think Russell will do enough not to lose games and McFadden will be awesome. I like this as a darkhorse pick this year.
    Kansas City picked up Cassell who proved he was solid and can make tough throws with NE, it's just too bad they dumped Gonzalez. KC won't really be that good, but looking at their team I don't see much difference between them and Denver, but this team has a better QB.
    Denver. Wow. New coach that pissed Cutler off and traded him for Orton. You've got no defensive improvement other than Dre Bly not being on the team anymore. The only reason they don't finish last is because they share this terrible division with...

    AFC North: Pittsburgh had the hardest schedule last year and was the #1 defense despite that. Now they have one of the easiest schedules this year. Mendenhall and Parker are healthy, the entire offense is back, the defense lost a little bit but not much. This team easily wins the division.
    Baltimore has a solid season. Flacco follows up with another good season and their defense wins games all by themselves. I love Ed Reed.
    Cleveland. This team sucks
    Cincinnati So does this one.

    AFC South:
    Houston: Indianapolis finally gets dethroned, the world apologizes to Houston for making fun of them for drafting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush.
    Indianapolis: Still finishes a solid 9-7, but can't run the ball and can't stop anybody.
    Jacksonville: Eeks by Tennessee. Garrard is awesome.
    Tennessee: Lost pieces of their defense, which was their entire identity. Lightning doesn't strike twice for Collins; Tennessee benefitted from the defense coming together right as they got an easy schedule.

    AFC East: New England : With a 3rd place schedule and Brady back = great season.
    Miami : Won't make the playoffs or return to form, but they're still better than the other two teams. Never underestimate Bill Parcells and especially Chad Pennington <3
    NY Jets : Sanchez doesn't have a great year, but he has a decent year and doesn't get benched. The secondary should though.
    Buffalo : TO helps this team, but their defense is still atrocious and Marshawn Lynch is not a good runningback.

    Wild Card: Baltimore, Indianapolis

    NFC West
    San Francisco : Goddamn right. Defense is better, Shaun Hill is a consistent 90+ rating passer, and Singletary is awesome. They were 1 yard short of winning the division last year, but Gore slipped and fell on an easy TD run vs Arizona. That alone would have knocked Arizona out and put us in. We WILL be better and they WON'T be as good.
    Seattle : I love Jim Mora Jr. The defense got better and TJ Houshmanzadeh will be a nice relief for Hasselbeck if he stays healthy. They lost Walter Jones though so running will be a problem.
    Arizona : Don't forget this team finished 9-7 last year. They got worse in runningback, and Warner is a year older. Maybe Warner will magic himself up another MVP caliber season, or maybe he just gets rocked in week one and Leinart comes in. Nice defense by the way.
    St. Louis : God-awful

    NFC North
    Green Bay : Rodgers throws for 4k yards, Grant maybe hits 1,000 rushing and Green Bay finds a way not to lose the games they're supposed to win.
    Minnesota : This team is better with Favre. Hate on him all you want, he's still better than Sage/Tavaris. Everyone forgets he took a shitty 4-12 Jets team almost to the playoffs but thanks to Eric Vangini they blew it, and he got fired. Terrible coach. But so is Childress, and no way he can win a division by himself even with AP and that defense.
    Chicago : Jay Cutler is an improvement, but the defense is still lackluster ever since Ron Rivera got shanghai'd after the Colts/Bears Super Bowl for no reason. Coincedence that San Diego became a powerhouse defense when Ron Rivera joined?
    Detroit : 3-13. Detroit cheers loudly.

    NFC South
    New Orleans : The team with the last place schedule always seems to take this division. New Orleans finished 8-8 and at the bottom of the division. I look to Brees to take advantage of that and win every game by scoring a ridiculous amount of points.
    Carolina : Fox sticks with running all over opponents and Delhomme learns to use Steve Smith better. 8-8.
    Atlanta : They had a cupcake schedule last season and the hardest in the NFL this year. Luckily they share a division with Tampa Bay so they won't finish in last.
    Tampa Bay : They will get what's coming to them.

    NFC East
    NY Giants : This defense is the best in the NFL. Jacobs is awesome. Steve Smith will make everyone go "Ok, which Steve Smith had the awesome game this week?" and this defense is awesome.
    Philly : They lost their d-coordinater AND starters, why don't they get knocked down a peg? Still finishes 10-6 though.
    Washington : I like Jason Campbell, he's solid. It's just the rest of the team I don't like.
    Dallas : Fuck you guys!

    Wild Card: Philly, Minnesota

    MVP Aaron Rodgers
    DPOY Shawn Merriman
    Comeback POY Marques Colston
    ROY Offense=Brandon Pettigrew Defense= Aaron Curry
    Coach of the Year: Mike Tomlin

    Super Bowl pick : San Francisco over Houston (laugh all you want, I said Pittsburgh over Arizona in week 4)

    Dude, if San Fagsisco wins the division, I won't ever argue with you again. I will seriously just bow to you. I will fly to wherever you are and bow down to you. There's no way that's happening come on! That's one of the more biased things I have ever seen in my life. Rob's biased but he can legitimately pick Phili to go to the Super Bowl b/c that's realistic. Dude, Shaun Hill is a bum. Plus, who's he gonna throw it to? Crabtree still isn't around and will be way behind on learning the offense when he does show up. I'm wondering if you were joking.

    But, that's why they play the game b/c we don't know. You could be right. I already owe you cookies from a year ago, which you will get before Christmas (I'm a flake, what do you want?) but if you get this one... dude, if SF wins the Super Bowl, Rob you are my witness, I will buy you a customized jersey for SF (That's a replica, I'm a poor beaner). Seriously, dude, there is NO WAY SF wins the Super Bowl, they are one of only 5 teams (Det, STL, Cinn, and Cle being the others) that I truly believe have no shot at all at winning the super bowl. And yeah, you called Arizona last year but they had Warner, Fitzgerald, Boldin, and at the very least a Head Coach who was a proven Offensive Coordinator. SF has Smith and Hill battling at QB which is kind of like watching two retarded fat kids play hide and seek in a closed empty room, Singletary- who might be cool but is not a proven Head Coach and no WR's and a mediocre at best defense.

    BUT AGAIN, THAT'S WHY THEY PLAY THE GAME. So, if you somehow by some freakish miracle you turn out to be right, I will own up, admit that I am inferior to you and buy you the jersey. But, it's not gonna happen. That was a totally biased pick.

    Arizona finished 9-7 last year. San Fran finished 7-9. We were one yard short of beating them on MNF, but Frank Gore slipped and fell. If he doesn't do that we win the division (we had the tiebreaker over them) with a sad 8-8 record, but so did San Diego. It's really not as far-fetched as you think.

    Yeah, I don't think they'll win the Super Bowl either.

    But neither did Arizona fans last year (bad defense, old washed up QB, old washed up RB). Or the Giants two years ago (remember when everyone said that losing Tiki Barber = no playoffs?) Or Patriot fans in 2001 (no stars of any kind). Or Rams fans in 2000 (Trent Green gets injured first week, and they came off a 4-12 season). The NFL is the one sport where it's not consistently dominated by the elite teams. The 49ers will most likely not win it all; of course not. There are 31 other teams competing. But I'm pretty confident in them winning the division, and if I pick the 49ers to make the playoffs, I'm not picking them to lose.

    Also, I seriously don't understand this Shaun Hill hatred. Shaun Hill had a better passer rating than SEVEN playoff QBs last year (Eli, Frerotte/Jackson, McNabb, Delhomme, Flacco, Collins, Big Ben). That's more than half.
  • elvato87elvato87 August 2009
    I see your point but at the same time if he's so good then why were the 49ers hoping to land Kurt Warner? Why were they trying to hand Smith the job on a platter? They don't have faith in Hill. Plus, stats don't tell the whole story. The Cards were 9-7, but they went to the Super Bowl. They were better than that record suggested.

    Plus, Hill can't breathe McNabb's or Big Ben's air unless they say its okay. If the 49ers could pull a deal for McNabb or Big Ben by giving up Hill, it'd be done in a heartbeat.

    They don't have faith in their own guy and I don't know that he's got the talent nor the weapons.

    By the way, is there a fantasy football league this year? I swear that if there is, I won't miss the draft (unless of course there is and I am in it and already missed it)

    "elvato87":

    I see your point but at the same time if he's so good then why were the 49ers hoping to land Kurt Warner?

    That was a power play to force Arizona to pay him more money.

    "elvato87":

    Why were they trying to hand Smith the job on a platter? They don't have faith in Hill.

    He's GM Scot McCoughlin's pet project. He keeps wanting to give him 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances. Singletary will let Smith try to take the job from Hill if he can, but he can't. Hill will be the starter.

    "elvato87":

    Plus, stats don't tell the whole story. The Cards were 9-7, but they went to the Super Bowl. They were better than that record suggested.

    They really weren't. They played a Falcons team that can't stop the pass headed by a rookie QB. They played the Panthers when Delhomme had his worst game probably ever, and then I think it's obligatory that the Eagles choke in the NFC Championship, right?

    "elvato87":

    Plus, Hill can't breathe McNabb's or Big Ben's air unless they say its okay. If the 49ers could pull a deal for McNabb or Big Ben by giving up Hill, it'd be done in a heartbeat.

    Completely irrelevant.

    "elvato87":

    They don't have faith in their own guy and I don't know that he's got the talent nor the weapons.

    The GM wants Smith to play because he was the idiot that drafted him. Singletary doesn't give a shit, he's just going to play the best one. If Hill doesn't have the talent, how did he put up the numbers he did? If he doesn't have the weapons, how does he go 7-3 as a starter despite them?

    "elvato87":

    By the way, is there a fantasy football league this year? I swear that if there is, I won't miss the draft (unless of course there is and I am in it and already missed it)

    Yeah, but I kicked out everyone who abandoned their team during the season and gave the spots to other people. If one of them abandons you can reclaim their spot next season.
  • elvato87elvato87 August 2009
    Hey, I missed the draft but I checked on my team last year once I learned I was in the league.

    It may have been a power play by Warner and I agree that it was, but do you really believe that if Arizona hadn't paid up that Hill would be the starter in SF? They were ready to take Warner on whether they believed he would go there or not. There's a reason for that. If you think you're set at QB, you don't even call Warner. They clearly don't think they're set.

    Arizona didn't just luck out and get to the Super Bowl. They nearly beat Pitt. You make good points, yes, but they broke out of a slump and got hot at the right time in addition to some of the things you pointed out.

    My point on McNabb and Big Ben was only to point out that they are better in spite of them having a lesser passer rating than Hill and I don't think that Hill having a better passer rating places him in that class of QB's. I'm fairly sure Romo had a better passer rating than some of those guys too. That doesn't mean he's as good as they are. Part of McNabb and Big Ben having a lesser passer rating can be attributed to strength of schedule, that's my point. Yes, Hill has played well but I'm not sold on him and I think you are a little premature to think he might be the answer to your QB problem.

    I really haven't seen enough of Hill to speculate on how good he could be this year. Matt is not the only 49ers fan that I know who is sold on the kid, though. Two of my other friends who are Niners fan think he's the solution.

    I looked at the passer ratings for last year and there were 4 QBs with lower passer ratings, who I feel are better QBs than Hill (McNabb, Roethlisberger, Culter, Flacco). Of the 11 QBs with better passer ratings, there were only two I wouldn't rather have (Romo, Garcia). Not on the list was Matt Hasselbeck and Tom Brady, whom I would rather have. So, I guess currently believe that he's the 16th best QB in the league. That could change this year, though.

    Is it too late to change my Bengals blurb to say, "Child, please! The Bengals can kiss da baby on this season."

    I love this season of Hard Knocks. Chad Ochocinco is definitely my favorite non-Eagle. So many funny moments, but my favorite so far is him buying the fake bling from Claire's.

    I'd rather have Shaun Hill than McNabb now.
  • RCSoulRCSoul September 2009

    "Aerock":

    I'd rather have Shaun Hill than McNabb now.

    I guarantee if the Eagles asked the 49ers to trade Shaun Hill for Donovan McNabb straight up, they would do it in a nanosecond. I'd bet my life on it.

    You can call McNabb injury prone, but you show me a guy who can get hit in the ribs while pinned between the ground and a 350 pound guy and not have an injury. Those 350 pounds were moving and the hit was well after the whistle, so McNabb was probably not bracing himself for a hit like that. He'll miss this week's game, but I expect him to play in Week 3. If he's still in pain that week, the Eagles can still easily beat the Chiefs without him and he can play in Week 5 after the bye. And I didn't feel good about my birds chances against the Saints even with McNabb, so I don't know how much of difference his missing the game will make.

    Really what we should be discussing is the ridiculous hype everyone is raining on Tony Romo is getting after his Week 1 performance. It's been his trademark to put up big numbers in games where he's never playing from behind and there's no pressure. I want to see how he plays in a meaningful game playing from behind. The situations where he's been known to completely collapse. Then, I'll be willing to anoint him a top tier QB. Until then, I have him as a third tier guy... with Shaun Hill. :-)
  • elvato87elvato87 September 2009
    Well, that settles it, Tony Romo sucks. Well, I'm just gonna watch college football from now on. It's less painful. Also, Adrian Peterson is an okay player.

    Yay, I saw that game and finally know what you guys are talking about. My cable provider gave me all the pay channels for free this weekend and I caught the end of the Bears-Steelers game and watched the Cowboys-Giants game almost entirely. My first non-Super Bowl NFL games I've ever seen :D

    If the Niners beat the Vikings this week, I'm picking them to go undefeated this year. If they give the Vikes a game, I'll be convinced that they're a good team. Otherwise, I'm still not impressed.
  • RCSoulRCSoul September 2009

    Somehow I missed this sentence before. I know what you mean. I get the impression that Adrian Peterson has definitely played football before. At least once or twice.
  • AerockAerock September 2009
    When I said that, I was under the impression for some reason that the 49ers played the Rams next. We probably won't beat Minny, but I'm really happy we're 2-0 right now. Looking at the schedule I figured we would lose to Minnesota but I definitely didn't want to be looking at 1-2 after playing two divisional games. I am happy with how the offense and defense are going. No major complaints right now. Josh Morgan isn't really doing as much as I expected him to, but Isaac Bruce is picking up the slack.

    I had a dream last night that SF was up 16-9 late in the 4th quarter. Brett Favre was going for the tying touchdown, but threw an interception to Nate Clements who returned it for a td. 23-9!

    Well, even with that loss I'm convinced that the Niners are a decent team. I was pleasantly surprised that Greg Lewis came up with that clutch catch. He had quite a few of them in Philly, most notably in the Super Bowl, so it's good to see he's holding down a job somewhere in the NFL.

    I think Adrian Peterson has played safety before. Did you see him lay out Gay in the Steelers game this weekend?

    In other news the Eagles better beat the Skins tonight. Last week they managed to lose to the Raiders and lose me money. If I ever see Andy Reid in person, I'll punch him straight in the face. I could have won $12,000, but he can't run the ball when his running back is averaging almost 10 yards a carry because they're down 6 point even though our LT went down and his replacement is an absolute bum?!?!?!

    I guarantee I've lost at least 15 years off of the end of my life watching the Eagles. I blame my mother.
