The Sinch Forum is back! It looks a lot different but all posts and users were imported from the old forum so everything should be right where we left it.

holy shit that was clever. I should just stop now.

Anyway, in case anyone has the forum bookmarked instead of the website, Dan put up a donation widget and we need to all chip-in. There's only like 6 of us, but if we all chip in what we can, that can fuel maybe a day's worth of hookers and drugs and help them get inspired.

How long does it usually take for the widget to refresh the totals?

I'm not exactly sure. I'm seeing $5 now, but I don't know how long ago it came in. I guess maybe it takes a few minutes for PayPal to let them know the payment went through.

That was mine, so I'm guessing it takes about at most 15 minutes or so. Is the in-house performance in Seattle still $9,999? Because at $5/week I can get you guys to play in 2047
  • RCSoulRCSoul January 2009
Sweet. It's about time. I donated some cash. I'll donate some more later when I'm in a little better shape.
  • RCSoulRCSoul January 2009
It's been 4 days and already you guys are creeping up on the $500 mark. That's awesome.
  • dandan January 2009
Yeah, we're definitely ahead of where I thought we be after just a few days. Thanks to everyone who's donated so far. We talked about the stuff we'll be giving away for higher donation levels last night. Hopefully we have that posted next week some time.

@aerock: I don't remember saying a Seattle show would be $9,999 but honestly that sounds about right.

We were talking about the show thing last night, and for it to be worth it we'd have to have enough money to pay for the show itself (travel, hotel, food, etc) and still have a good bit of money left over to put towards the recording.

If there's enough interest in one-off shows, it might make sense to just do those separately, with different price ranges for different areas. The one thing to keep in mind about the shows is that you could pay us to do the show and then sell tickets or charge admission or whatever and potentially make your money back (or at least part of it).

Looks like it's going along okay. Only just seen it and a bit skint at the moment, but will chip in as and when I'm able.

I'm East coast USA now and just a cheapo bus ticket away from SE Pennsylvania, so I'm hoping my second live attendance is mere months away. 8)

the more i look at the rewards system, the more i feel that there should be one somewhere in the few hundred dollars section which lets the fan either name the album or name a track on the album.
  • AerockAerock March 2009
I like their names for the albums/songs. You don't want to ruin the integrity of the music.

Here's an idea though. There's a large gap between $500 (phone call) and $5000 (exec producer). How about $1000 lets us pick one word that will be used as a lyric anywhere. This way, if you end up donating $5k you can be an executive producer AND get to put 5 words in the album. I'm picking scrotum, oysters, integrity, and 'glory hole' as a two word combo.
  • MARK%21MARK! March 2009
but what if its an interlude, ala Vanishing Act? there can't be too much harm in naming a track like that "Glory Hole"
  • AerockAerock March 2009
I may just be a shill for Sinch, but I think even the song titles to the instrumental/interlude songs are appropriate.

    Thanks Tommi!

You contributed $50.00 to Recording a new SINCH album

I finally got some money. I wish I could afford more, but even that was a lot for me at the moment. Well, it's not really that much, but when you're out of job and it's summer you don't get a lot, but you tend to spend a lot. You know, on drinking, festivals (drinking), weekend trips to the country (drinking) and barbecues (drinking) and all that stuff...

When I get a new job, I'm definitely adding at least another $50 so I can get the shirt and the poster... (well, at least I really hope I'm getting a new job before all this is over with... if I don't, it would suck for a lot more reasons than not getting the shirt, obviously)

EDIT: And if I win the lottery, I'm donating a whole lot more. ;)

I agree there's a pretty big gap there and we could probably put some more levels in there. I don't know about the lyric thing... that's obviously up to Jamie. But I think he might be willing to use "glory hole" in a song for no money at all.

the donate thing is still working right? *just checking*
I'll make sure to donate some as soon i start working again since i would like to help out!( guess i'll start working again next week so shouldnt take too long after that ^^)
  • AerockAerock January 2010
Just noticed that the donation link shows that you've had 200 contributors. That's awesome!
  • dandan January 2010
Hell yeah it is! I'd really love to get it to 1000 to see if the 1000 True Fans theory could actually get us to the point where we can make a living doing this. Obviously $50k isn't going to support the band entirely but it could really help us afford to move a little faster and maybe with touring and doing everything else we can build up some momentum.

Come on 800 more people! Where the fuck are you?
  • AerockAerock January 2010
Maybe instead of 800 more true fans you just need to find one really really rich one.
  • dandan February 2010
Awesome idea. Although judging from some of the donations we've gotten we might already have some rich fans.
  • 'ello.
How does one donation to Sinch at the moment? ...since the widget thingee isn't working. Thought i'd ask rather than wait for the new widget, and end up spending my money on hoes and stupid hats in the interim.

Well technically you can always just send us money through paypal (to dan@sinch.net). That's what the widget is doing, except that it's also keeping track of each donation and the total so far.

So if you don't mind your donation being sort of "uncounted" feel free to send money whenever you want :) We're working on getting the new widget up asap/stat.
  • Cool as, thanks Dan.

I actually, er, spent the cash i had put aside for you chaps, so it'll be another week or so before i can cross Sinch's palm with silver.
  • ZideredZidered June 2010
Hello folks, how's tricks? I too now have a few dollars to spare, after being a filthy pauper (really, beggars moved away from me on the subway as a sign of what could happen) for a couple of years.

I'll get on this during the week, oh yes. 8)
  • Oh, forgot about this...

I'm saving for other stuff now, so i think i need to watch the latest 'in the studio' videos to get excited about the new album, so i can justify investing...
  • MARK%21MARK! July 2010
I finally contributed. That being I couldn't remember if I actually had, so it is possible I have contributed multiple times.
Noticed the address entry assumed I was in USA. so since there is no state or country recorded with my address my cd could be lost forever unless Dan asks me those details before he sends the cd.
