The Sinch Forum is back! It looks a lot different but all posts and users were imported from the old forum so everything should be right where we left it.
The Sound Share Project
  • RCSoulRCSoul March 2008
Is anyone else planning on putting something together for the Sound Share Project? I think this is a really good idea and that it'll be fun. I'm really excited to hear what the rest of you guys put together. I downloaded the kits tonight and I hope to get started this weekend on something.

I'm going to make something after finals are over and after I graduate.

I'm definitely gonna be doing something. After I do a bunch of other stuff like buy a house and retire. Then I have to rebuild this old car I have in the backyard. After that I'm all over this.
  • no offense but i hate working with other peoples sounds...otherwise i'd probably have a lot more than one nine inch nails remix (which I lost anyway.) it sounds sweet but i think it would have been more appealing when i first started making music. then again maybe i'm being to picky. maybe working with other people's material is just another way of progressing...i dunno. would anybody be interested in hearing a forgotten sinchizen song? if so i'll do something. i just have so much other stuff to do in college i guess i've been concentrating mostly on stuff i can use in my portfolio. maybe over the summer i'll start some extraneous projects. probably another album though. i'll make some sinch mixes to warm myself up.

funny though how everyone is putting it off  :o :? :(

    I'm definitely interested.

I hear what you're saying about using other people's sounds. At the same time I don't think we're even suggesting that what you do with it has to be in any way recognizable as the original song.

Think of it as a constraint that you have to work with but that you can do pretty much whatever you want. I'd actually be more interested to hear something that sounds completely different anyway. Just to see what people can come up with using our material as a base.

I would be. You should do one.

I actually started one before my hard drive died. I've been pushing off starting it again.

What programs are good for this? I have fruity loops but it either sucks or I don't know how to use it.
  • RCSoulRCSoul March 2008
I use Acid. I've never been a fan of Fruity Loops.

Step 1 Complete! I downloaded all the files (including the Bluskreen stuff). Up next.... step two. Unzip everything!

There's a list of suggested programs on the Sound Share page. Obviously you have to pay for some of them, but I think they all have at least a trial version you can check out.

I'm using Ableton Live. You can download a demo version here: http://www.ableton.com/demo-live I'm not sure what the limitations are, but as long as it's just a timed thing (30 days or whatever) and you can save/export projects, you should be able to do something within the trial period.

They also have an "LE" version which is more entry-level, if you think the full program might be too overwhelming to start with:

    why aren't the vocals included?
  • dandan March 2008
Tony put everything together so you'd have to ask him. I'd like to include vocals with everything, but I'm not sure what his reason was. I think it will definitely make for some more interesting remixes if everyone has the vocals, or at least some of them.

It all sounds horrifyingly complicated from just these posts.....albeit interesting with it. If I find some free life time this month, I'll investigate.

I think we're making it sound more complicated than it is.

Obviously it helps to have some experience with these kinds of programs, but once you start playing around with it you'll probably pick it up pretty quickly. I mean, if Mike can figure it out how hard can it be?
