New album/New album title?
  • ReznikReznik February 2008
I ask this every year but...any sign of the new album?and if so what is it called or is there any names floating around for it yet?you guys should each think of a name and put a poll up and let us vote for it!that would be cool.there seems to be a drought of good music about, can anybody recommend some?the last good album I got was HURT-Vol.II and that was a while ago now.

I haven't really been listening to a lot of new stuff, so I don't know how much help I can be for you. I just picked up Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 2: No World For Tomorrow from Coheed and Cambria and The Cool from Lupe Fiasco, which I've been absorbing lately. I'm pretty sure both of those artists are pretty well known, so you've probably heard of them but in case you don't know anything about them Coheed plays progressive rock similar to stuff like Rush except a little more poppy and Lupe Fiasco is rap, similar to stuff like Outkast for lack of a better comparison.

And I'm curious about any album details, too!
  • dandan February 2008
We'll definitely be recording stuff for a new album this year. And I'd love to say it'll be out this year as well, but it's a little too early to tell. We'll have a better idea once we actually get in the studio.

No title yet either. We usually don't come up with a title until we're done, or at least starting to put the packaging together.
  • AerockAerock February 2008
The hottest trend right now is word combinations. The combination of two words to make one word to express some idea with a little more emphasis than the two words side by side. Plus, it makes you look more introspective. Here is a short free list for you to consider:

    Apatheory
    The Considerisive
    Corrupture the System
    Parableshit
I've Got A Runny Nose and a Sorecophagus

My vote lies with this gem.

It's official. The title of our next record will be...

How long until the band lets us hear some demos, Dan?

And once upon a time, wasn't there a way to donate some cash to the cause? How can I help you guys get this album out faster?

You know I've been meaning to add some sort of donation feature to the site for a long time, but I keep putting it off for some reason. I guess part of it is that I wasn't really sure if people would be willing to just give us money without getting something back.

So, my other idea was to do what I;ve seen a few other artists do recently... almost like a pledge drive for public broadcasting or whatever, where you have different levels of donation, each one with a different set of things you would get for your donation. For example:

For $10.00, you would just get immediate access to download the album when it's done
For $25.00, you'd get the downloads plus a limited-edition CD (autographed of course)
For $50.00, you'd get the downloads, the CD, plus a shirt and a signed poster.
    Etc. etc...

We could even go as far as something like:

For $1,000 you get all the above stuff, plus a day in the studio with us which we'll film and put on DVD for you and you get an "executive producer" credit on the album
And for $5,000 you get full access to all recording sessions and a 2 hour session at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch courtesy of Sinch.

    You get the idea...

In the meantime though, I'll add an option to donate to the cause and at the very least anyone who donates will get to download the album for free and have their name listed in the credits.
  • RaZoRRaZoR May 2008
    W00t. I LOVE that idea!!!

That sounds good. I wasn't expecting anything in return, but it'd be pretty sweet to be thanked in the credits.
  • tommitommi May 2008
I'd definitely donate money for the cause even if there were no rewards for it, but a reward will definitely get me to donate more.

Not really interested in the downloads, but I'll definitely take the cd, even if it's not a limited edition, but especially if it is one, with the autographs and stuff like that. Poster and shirt are welcome too, so just let me know when I can donate and how. I don't have a lot of money, but 50 bucks is like no money in euros these days, so I could probably spare at least that much. ;)

I'll be honest and say I don't read the newsletters though (well, sometimes I do, but not that often), and I rarely check out anything here except the general discussion (that includes the main site), so maybe put a forum wide sticky up when you have some sort of donating system in place, or PM me or something.

P.S. Did you mean that the limited edition CD is the upcoming album, or some sort of special CD with like B-sides or live tracks or something? I don't care either way, really, but getting a limited edition of the new album with autographs would be really awesome.

If you're doing somekind of special CD, but haven't planned on anything yet, I'd suggest doing some acoustic/semi-acoustic versions of some of your songs, and make something like an EP or something out of them. Just a suggestion, though, because I really love acoustic albums (like Porcupine Tree's "We Lost the Skyline" and Pain of Salvation's "12:5"), but like I said, I'll take anything and even if I don't get anything, I'm willing to donate a little bit at least.

    "RCSoul":

but it'd be pretty sweet to be thanked in the credits.

That's great too. Always did want to be mentioned in the credits for something.
  • AerockAerock October 2008
Never saw this thread before today, but I too would donate. Cheesy as it sounds, the music alone is reward enough.
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2008
I forgot about this. You should get a donation link up, Dan. Like soon. Before I spend all of my money.

    Yo long time no see!

Well I was just reading this thread, and I got to say, that's one of the most awesome idea I have heard in a long time. Although I'm not on the forum a lot lately, I will def give you guys the money you need!

so put it up, or give me a bank account number (I don't have paypal or anything like it).
And most web-give-money things wont work as it should in the Netherland, and I'll give you the shizzle you'll be needing

Me too. Could use more, though...

Maybe we could get Ocean's Eleven kind of money out of it.
  • RCSoulRCSoul March 2009
Sadly, the only plausible heist was pulled last year with the Hilton sports book. It's nearly impossible to rob a casino of a significant amount of money.

If just anyone could count cards, I probably wouldn't have a job in this town. Table games revenue spiked when that movie 21 came out. Not everyone is a genius, but unfortunately for them, they don't know that. Most people that actually possess the ability to count cards are already banned from table games.

I encourage everyone to come to Vegas and try counting cards, though.

Don't they use 2 decks in blackjack and completely reshuffle after each hand?

    "Aerock":

A shoe (plastic thing that holds the cards) at the casino where I work has 6 decks of cards. I don't know a whole lot about it because I don't play, but when I've been in a pit, I've never seen a dealer reshuffle. I think they'll cut the deck pretty much whenever a guest requests it, though.

EDIT: Here's a good picture of what a shoe looks like - http://www.amazon.com/Blackjack-Dealing-Shoe-Discard-Holder/dp/B000B76O7A

i thought they used to use two decks, but stopped, and they don't reshuffle....i was watching a documentry about card counting....and i hoguht it said that, but that was about a year ago..

I don't know when that documentary was made, but I've worked at a strip casino for around 4 years and they've used 6 deck shoes since I've been here.

If you mean gay like they should be using more decks, then yes, I agree. People losing money pays my paycheck every week. Since people aren't gambling like they used to before the economy turned to shit, I think the casino needs every edge it can get.

    "Zoe":

Yup. When I last lived in the Philly the Eagles had just lost the Superbowl.

So, what's the deal with the new album? There hasn't been any updates in like 2 months. Do you guys have anything scheduled for recording coming up? Is it looking good for the album to be released this year?

We've actually been putting together a new site for the whole new album project, which will be launching (hopefully) this week. Just working out a few details with the new "widget" that we're using.

Jamie has been recording vocals for the past couple of months, usually on the weekends so it's going a little slow (like everything else at this point) but he's about half way done.

We're all really anxious to get this thing done but there are a lot of different factors at work and we're just not able to get into the studio as much as we'd like. I'd love to say we're gonna have the new album out this year but you know how that goes. I think just the act of saying it will be out this year would push it back 6 months somehow.

Once the new site is up there should be more frequent updates from the studio. We know a lot of people who contributed probably weren't expecting it to take this long. We're doing what we can though and I think it will be worth the wait.

For what it's worth we have some ideas on how to do things differently next time so there isn't so we can get new music out faster.

That sucks. Is there anything that we, the fans, can do to help you guys? Are you going to put up a new donation link with the new site?

Awesome. I was a little worried because it seemed like there were constant updates in the beginning and then things seemed to have really slowed as of late. Thanks for the quick response.

I don't really know the first thing about putting out an album DIY style, but I understand that it must be really difficult with the resources that bands like Radiohead and NIN have at their disposal. I have faith that you guys won't let me down, though.
  • dandan July 2010
Vocals are the last big piece of the recording process. From there we start mixing and usually adding little finishing touches on stuff. We might record additional guitar parts or percussion or something but most of the recording is done by this point.

The new donation site is up: http://contribute.sinch.net

The updates slowed down mostly because Tony and Jamie have been doing a lot of their stuff alone in the studio so I haven't been there to be able to write about anything. Updates should pick back up soon though, once we get involved in mixing.
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2010
Awesome. Thanks for the updates, Dan! I'll definitely try to slip you guys a little more cash for the record. I don't have a lot, but it'll be something. I hope it'll help.
