Did you know that female penguins give male penguins sexual favors for rocks? True story.

    Hello, i'm a n00b and i'm from Northampton, England :D
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon December 2005
Whats the nightlife like over there now that you have extended drinking hours?
  • CurlsCurls December 2005
Erm, to be honest aparently it hasn't been THAT bad. However this is Britain, binge drinking culture is what my generation of people are used too and the people who are most likely to exercise it.
My personal belief is that it'll put a bigger strain on the NHS and Police services with all the drink related accidents, alcohol poisoning, fights etc. Then again there is the conflicting view that because people will leave at different times it won't be as bad. That is the only pro i can think of. Otherwise i disbelieve that people who are used to chucking drink down their necks will slow down because they have more time to do it. To me thats more time to continue getting yourself in to a state, and Britain isn't central Europe.
I've done it myself, luckilly i am a supreme lightweight and i can't chuck as much my neck as everyone else, before i pass out.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon December 2005
Cool. I was over there in 2003 (for the Reading Festival, oh yeah!) and I met up with my brother and we went to the local, I had just started getting a good buzz going then it's midnight & we gotta go home!? Came as a bit of a shock.
So has every bar/pub extended their hours or is it mostly the main areas? eg. Soho
  • CurlsCurls December 2005
Reading festival is good. It's a shame glastonbury isn't on for a year but i'm planning on getting tickets for the year after. There are some great festivals in the UK. Where abouts does your brother stay? You're in the US aren't you? Where abouts?

The places that have extended their hours are different all over the country. Where i live there are only four places i believe. However i think in London there have been tones. However to be honest i think this is the gvts way of simply making lock in's legal lol.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon December 2005
Glastonbury isn't on!? Isn't that the biggest festival in Europe? crazy.
My brother is in Kent, South London I think.
I live in one of the colonies, New Zealand. :)
I plan on heading back next year, had the time of my life when I was there, but it was only for 3 weeks, so i'm going to live with my brother & travel around a bit - see the world, Catch some good tours.
  • CurlsCurls December 2005
Yeah i can't remember why they are shutting it, something to do with giving the neighbours some peace and quiet.
The year after i expect the line ups will be brilliant.

New Zealand, beautiful i have always wanted to go there. I used to go to school with a guy who was from New Zealand, he used to be quite a good friend of mine. Love the accent :p
Loads of Brits are moving out there and being a pain in the arse aren't they? A friend of mine is talking about moving there. I'd consider it if i had a likkle more cash.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon December 2005
Nah, you brits aren't THAT bad
  • CurlsCurls December 2005
    LOL yeah right ;)
Last i heard all the pretencious ones were buying up neighbourhoods and bringing the price of housing up too high and the locals couldn't afford to buy.
I just hope they don't do the same thing that they've done in Spain and Greece.

Cool, I've been to Amsterdam. That was a fun trip. ...and I met Fred Durst! Woah!

Hey Curls, thats the first i've heard about it, that sucks. I work with englishman and hes been saying it's the same story in England with families from India/Pakistan buying up neighbourhoods. He isn't that happy about it, to say the least. :)
What are they doing in Spain & Greece?

I haven't heard about it happening here if i'm honest, but that might be the recent bought of Islamaphobia thats glogging up peoples minds. To be honest Indian and Pakistani people have been here since the 50's...most people forget that.

Spain and Greece, well places like Ibiza and Ayia Napa are completely ruined by British tourism and immigration. Whole communities of Brits moving in, making their own communities and not assimilating in to the populace etc. We bought our binge drinking over there. Usualy the types that will complain about immigration in Britain...ironically IMO.

I am from Slovakia and studying in Czech Republic (coz Czech Republic has much better universities, and for Slovaks Czech language is clearly understandable).

And my opinion about 'Finland vs Sweden' - Comparing countries is totaly meaningless as every one persone is different, has different habits, needs and opinions.

Why? I've only been to Amsterdam, but I thought it was pretty decent. It's no London, but better than anything in Finland.

Also, the legality of marijuana would be a slight plus for me if I lived there, as I'm a (somewhat) law abiding citizen who sometimes likes to get high... :D
