What Have You Been Watching?
  • AerockAerock July 2006
Just watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I don't know much about the original story, but watching it at midnight with all the lights off was pretty sweet. At first I apprehensive about it taking place for the most part in the courtroom with flashbacks to the events leading to the exorcism. It was much better than The Exorcist I think, and if in the right mindset, there are a TON of images that can give you nightmares. I had to shield my girlfriend's eyes for a minute or two because I assumed the next scene would terrify her and give her nightmares for years, and I was right because the scene contained the types of imagery she hates the most. Good stuff. Pretty excellent movie.

Chappelle's Show, which finally arrived in the UK earlier this year. I think we might even be into season 2 now...........3 years late

How far's it got over there, out of interest??
  • AerockAerock July 2006
We're finally getting the *lost* episodes of Season 3, which are just a few skits Chappelle did before he quit the show. It won't have the on stage performance stuff introducing them, and there's been no word yet on whether or not he's going to resume the show.
  • I just watched Be Cool on sky, I thought it was alright... but fucking Andre (ice cold) 3000 cracked me up, that guy has comedy in his blood. That scene in Edie's living room when he's sitting on that stupid seat thingee had me in tears. Oh yeah, FUCK, Uma Thurman is hot - I never thought she was years ago (back around the Pulp Fiction days), she is gorgeous.
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2006
I thought Be Cool was okay. It was basically the same movie as Get Shorty, just with new characters.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I was a big fan of the first one and I wasn't let down by this one. It's not as good as the first, but still really enjoyable. Depp's Jack Sparrow character might be one of my favorite movie characters of all time. I gotta admit though that the first 15-20 minutes had me scared that the film was going to be awful, but then it just moves from action sequence to action sequence and keeps the plot development to a minimal level, which I think is best for a movie like this. You should see it. Everyone else has.
  • Meh, I don't know why but I have no aspirations to see Pirates 2. All i've read is postive/semi-positive reviews but still...

    ROBOCOP
I watched the classic Robocop (Uncut) last night, man I forgot how so violent this was - especially Murphy's death... damn!
Watching it, you wouldn't think it was made 19 years ago, the effects are pretty flawless.
Clarence Bodecker has to be one of the coolest/badie-ess characters of all time. "Bitches. Leave."

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

    ROBOCOP

Yeah, it's easy to forget that Robocop wasn't for kids. That movie is awesome.

"I work for Dick Jones! DICK JONES!"
  • Click: Probly not as good as other Adam Sandler movies but at the same time it was quite unlike his others in the 'feel' that it gave off. Starts slow but gets a lot better towards the end.
  • Is it Sandler-Silly humour or Sandler-Mainstream humour?
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2006

    "IdentityTheft":

Click: Probly not as good as other Adam Sandler movies

Probably? I'll save you guys the time and let you know that it's definately not as good as Adam Sandler's other movies. The movie is half Billy Madison (down to the O'Doyle's and all) and then half Punch Drunk Love (wholly serious and mildly depressing). It might be the most inconsistant movie I've ever seen and it's not a good thing. Does it want to be a comedy or a drama? Pick a fucking genre.
  • tsnuftsnuf July 2006
saw The Bone Collector last night, thought it was pretty good. Interesting to see young Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.
  • "tsnuf":

Interesting to see young Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.

Huh? The film is only 7 years old...
  • tsnuftsnuf July 2006
Thats more than a third of my life man
  • True dat. I wouldn't consider them young in The Bone Collector, I was meaning there are older flicks by them both.
  • AerockAerock July 2006
That's like watching The Rock and saying "It's crazy how young Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery were."
  • I just watched The Rock last night... Connery does look really young in that film! :P

Actually, I only saw half of it... I forgot Dr Cox and John Conner's dad was in this. and how Hollywood was that ending... still a cool flick though.
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2006

    "Satan McBacon":

and how Hollywood was that ending... still a cool flick though.

Didn't Michael Bay do that movie? His stuff is always Hollywood.
  • Yeah, it's a Bell film.

You guys know he's doing the new Transformers movie right?
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2006

    "Satan McBacon":

You guys know he's doing the new Transformers movie right?

Yeah. Bumblebee isn't a Volkswagon Beetle and Megatron won't defy all logic and turn into a gun that is way smaller than his robot form. It'll probably suck, but I'll see it anyway.

Other Michael Bay movies I was duped into watching that sucked:

    Armageddon
    Pearl Harbor
    The Island

I do like the Bad Boys movies and The Rock, though. I guess it's possible the Transformers movie could be good.
  • I'm just happytastic that i'll get to see Transformers in a live-action film.
Here's a link to an article the flick - It's pretty long and has a spoiler about Skorponok:
    http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23800
  • I watched Batman last night. Still rawks!!
Been at least 10 years since I last watched and I picked up on a few things that I was too young to pick the last time I watched.

"Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moon light?"
  • Aerock, 'ave you seen Pirates II?
    Thoughts?
I've read mixed reviews... Alot of fans of the first dissing it...
  • AerockAerock July 2006
I haven't gotten the chance to see it. Dirt broke.

I had to wait like 3 weeks or so to see the first one, and I was dreaming about that movie for 10 years. I ended up seeing it about 6 times in theatres.
  • That sucks... I hate being skint when a cool flick comes out...
  • RCSoulRCSoul July 2006
I liked the new Pirates a lot. The only negative things I can say about it is that it starts a little slow and it's not as good as the original.
  • CurlsCurls July 2006
I really liked PC2, can't wait for three.

Best mate made us all sit in the cinema till the end of the longest credits in the world, only to find that the supplement was actually predictable and overrated.
  • AerockAerock August 2006
Finally watched the sequel to one of my favorite movies of all time.

    Spoilers for Pirates 2 ahead
    Skip if necessary

    Things I didn't like:
"Why is the rum always gone?" "Lose the rum" "Hide the rum" Ok, neat, we get it. Pirates like rum and Elizabeth burnt it once, in the previous movie. We get it, we know we're watching the pirates movie, no need to remind us.

I'm sure the next one will explain, but how did the monkey stay undead? And how is Barbossa still alive?

Some scenes felt contrived and forced into the movie. The sword fight scene in the rolling wheel, for example. All three sword-fighting badly at the same time. The movie didn't seem as fluid as the other one, which in turn made it seem longer than it was. The first one was executed beautifully and everything segued nicely into the next scene and was a logical step.

There weren't as many (or any) kick ass one-liners except maybe "An undead monkey. Top that." Most that were intended to be one-liners were rehashed from the old one.

    Things I liked:
Call me gay, but I thought Keira Knightley was fucking hot as a pirate.

Same goes with Johnny Depp too probably.

    Special effects were awesome.
    All safe now

The thing overall I liked the least was the fact they stretched this plotline out to span two films. I don't think the concept of this movie was so broad as to need a sequel to resolve anything. I think the last 15 minutes could have easily been dealt with differently to solve the conflict at hand and make it a stand alone movie.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon August 2006
That's not the way to do spoilers...
  • AerockAerock August 2006
In America, one announces if words they are about to say spoils what happens in the movie.

In New Zealand, one speaks the words and then announces "Oh by the way, that might have spoiled the movie for you. I hope you didn't read each sentence from beginning to end consecutively like 100% of the world does. In fact, just to be sure you'll read it, I'll make it in a different color than anything else on the board to make sure your eyes become attracted to it. In fact, its more than likely you will read ONLY the spoilers, and not so much the text leading up to it! ha HA!"
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon August 2006
It's not my fault you couldn't read "Spoilers ahead" in the same size and text colour as the rest of text before the said spoilers. :P
  • AerockAerock August 2006
It wasn't that, it was the different color for the spoilers that the eyes instantly become attracted to, and since there was only like one sentence of spoilers it was pretty impossible to avoid the human reaction to read the colors you're attracted to. Those are the basic principles of advertisement.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon August 2006
I know man, I was just making light of it all. :)
  • RCSoulRCSoul August 2006
***If you consider quotes spoilers, then you might now want to read this***

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
I had much the same reaction to this movie as I did with Anchorman. I laughed somewhat at the theater, but not a whole lot. But, the more I think about it, the funnier it is. Just like Anchorman, I find myself quoting it on a daily basis along with everyone I work with. Current office favorites are:

"Help me, Tom Cruise! Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft to get the fire off me!"

"There is a 98% chance that you will die in your lifetime."

When talking about any movies now, the following exchange always occurs:
    "Yeah, [blank] won an Oscar."
    "For what?
"For, uhhhh greatest movie ever made."

"I like to think of Jesus as a mischievious badger."
  • tsnuftsnuf September 2006
I watched Lucky Number Slevin (for the fourth time) this weekend... I really like it. Really funny and really serious at the same time.
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon September 2006
^ I just brought it home from work and was going to chuck it on after I did the rounds...

Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back Awesomeness! Where has this movie been all my life? I watched Dogma sometime back but had no idea it was one of a string of movies by Kevin Smith! I gotta watch the rest of his stuff, and I think I've watched Mallrats somewhere... :? So anyone lookin' forward to Clerks 2?

    You know it, biatch!
    Can't wait for Clerks 2.
I've praised Kev numerous times on this board, but clearly not enough. I love Kevs writing and the way he directs. He kicks major arse.

I've started working at Lackluster Video and I get free DVDs so I've watch a buttload these pass few weeks. I'm too lazy to write a whole bunch o' crap about each film...

Hills Have Eyes (original) - Cool
Lucky Number Slevin - really cool
    Battle Royale - Awesome
    Bad Trip - Shite
Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle - always a good watch
Long Weekend - kinda funny, not bad
Cube - Wicked! finally got to see it
Final Destination 3 - Meh. Same old same old. Some of the death scenes were kewl.
Bad Boys 2 (wasn't my choice) - cool, for a brainless action flick
The Roadhouse - wicked 80s Patrick Swayze film. "I used to fuck guys like you in prision"

Still gotta watch Baise Moi, Ichi The Killer (again), Reservour Dogs, Spinal Tap (again) and Silent Hill.

Yeah, I dug that movie a lot. Really strong performances from no name actors and actresses.

    "Satan McBacon":

I rented the DVD and watched with some friends just so we could watch the interactive version. It was pretty cool to "choose" who lived and who died, though I'm not sure how much our choices actually affected the outcome because we only watched it once.

Yeah, I fully forgot to do that :(

    BAISE-MOI
French film about a two ladies who meet on a whim after a series of incidents and embark on a French tour of sex, violence and destruction. Cool film, however gritty it was I still enjoyed it. It's banned in a buttload of countries because of the explict sex scenes (both main characters were played by french pornstars). It was like a late-night Thelma and Louise...
THis being such a violent and explicit film makes me wonder why Blockbuster stock it, they are, after all Antipr0n.
Check it out if ya dare.

    WAITING...
Fun as fuck. I laughed throughout. Well written and acted, Ryan Rennolds is hella funny same with mexican chef-fella... and Anna Faris = Hotness

    RESERVOUR DOGS
Finally got to see it (yeah, yeah i know), awesome. Good ol' Steve Buscemi - love him. I thought it was really cool, still got nuttin' on Pulp Fiction...
Tarantino's style rules, I loooove it.

    I've still got to watch:
This Is Spinal Tap - can remember fuck all of it
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon September 2006
Just watched Silent Hill. Thought it was uber badass.
I haven't played the games or anything but I thought the story was really cool. I quite enjoyed the fact that it wasn't like the 'make you jump' horror flicks of late, more of a brooding sorta horror.

Kudos to the director no doubt. Made me wanna play the games... Say, have any of you done that? I still haven't :(
  • Satan+McBaconSatan McBacon September 2006
    Yeah, great vibe throughout...

    ***SPOILERS AHEAD***
Aerock, get your tissues out :P

I liked the whole alternate realities thing, like you don't know whether they died in the crash or what.
That dude with the Star Destroyer on his head was pretty cool too, the whole rippin' skin of the chick would be a pretty badass party trick.
I kinda think that the siren could have been more... um, whats the word... menacing (I guess), the Siren was cool but I thought maybe making it somehow more dreadful or something... if that make any sense.

    End of spoilers, yo
  • RaZoRRaZoR September 2006
I watched Slither yesterday, was such a fun ol' fashion horror flick, I liked it alot :D I also watched Nacho Libre and even tho I'm a huge Jack Black fan, and he was awesome in the movie as always and that Spanish chick was painfully pretty, I ended up feeling well, not very satisfied :? I guess I just expected more from it.

For those of you who love Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and especially it's custom map Dota Allstars (like myself :D I play it all the time! It's all the rage at the locals gaming cafes!) You will LOVE this video. Some of the stuff they do on that vid is nothing short of amazing. The fact that the background music is a remix of In Flames' - "Cloud Connected" is an added bonus.

    Reviving this thread..................

I watched both Chasing Amy and Clerks 2 and I must say... Kevin Smith is a freakin' genious. Chasing Amy was brilliant and Clerks 2 is probably my favourite movie to come out this year! Jay n Silent Bob ROCK! Greatness!

Also watched Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Really, Really good. Didn't expect it to be so good. Goody!

Then there was The Devil Wears Prada. This would compete closely with Clerks 2 as my movie of the year. Smart, funny and not corny, cheesy or over the top for even a second. Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway give flawless performances. Perfectly executed movie.

Oh, I also finally was able to watch Donnie Darko. If you haven't watched this yet, do it. It's gained cult status for a reason. I love having my mind blown away by movies like this. Jake Gyllenhaal's greatest performance ever? I think so.

AND I have a copy of Monty Python and The Holy Grail lying around just waiting to be watched when I get some free time... I don't know about you guys but my last 2 months, movie-wise, have been pretty damn sweet.
