hmm.. well i honestly don't think its worth you sending me $4 in the mail... and well as for a trade, i don't think you'll be able to get the new postman syndrome cd for me for $4 when it comes out :P

and on the topic of the thread:

    today i listened to:
nothingface - pacifier........... yay i finally completed my nothingface collection - though this don't seem as good as the others
    on first listen

dredg - catch without arms..... well it was in the shops so i figured i'd give it a chance. it seemed pretty decent, but maybe its cause my expectations were so low.... i guess its not really a dredg album in the sense that its not very arty or experimental......... but at the same time its still dredg cause it is recogniseable that its them - and its notr like it sounds like hoobastank or something to that extent

helmet - size matters..... been waiting ages to get this at a good price - was in another room when it weas on, but from a distance it sounded pretty good.

monster magnet - tab........ finally found a cpy of this. seemed very good :)

rollerball - let your hair hang down

    opeth - morningrise

    katatonia - tonight's decision

Yeah, it's not a horrible album. If it were any other band putting out a record like that I would probably say it was pretty good. But, Dredg put out that record and it's way worse than anything they had put out previously.

I can mail you a check for that CD and a couple bucks more for the shipping and effort. Can you cash US checks?
  • MARK%21MARK! September 2005
theyd probably charge me so much to do so that i'd get $1 from it.
give me a bit of time cause i can't post it for a couple of weeks. and after that i'll figure out dsome sort of exchange

    mr bungle - disco volante
kyuss - blues for the red sun

I've been listening to Alaska, as well. I think that it's probably better than the first, too. Definately one of the best albums this year.

EDIT - Not a big fan of the first song, though. It's alright. I think Alaska should have been the first track.

EDIT 2 - I didn't want to post twice in a row on the same topic just to list what I've been listening to the past few days.

Between the Buried and Me - Alaska
Tapping the Vein - The Damage
    Stemage - Metriod Metal
Various Unknown Artists - Zidered's Mix CD
  • RCSoulRCSoul September 2005
I didn't want to edit that post for a third time. I've been listening to:

12 Rounds - My Big Hero
Weren't they supposed to release a new album like 4 years ago?

    Cursive - -The Ugly Organ
Their cello player puts them over the top. How many bands sport one of them? I'm talking a full-fledged member, not a guest appearance. You could probably count them on one hand. I can only think of A Whisper in the Noise off of the top of my head. They're pretty awesome, too.

    Sinch - Clearing the Channel
I was going to just listen to Silence Broken, so that I could give a good description for Dan's poll, but then I wound up listening to the whole thing. It's like Pringles. Once you pop you just can't stop. Ouch.

I'm still listening to a lot of the same shit, but I don't want to keep posting the same stuff over and over again. I own like 350-400 CDs and I probably listen to the same 40-50. Like, I own every Nirvana album outside of the box set, but I haven't pulled out a single one since like 1998. I also turn them off every time they're on the radio, so I'm pretty sure I don't dig their stuff anymore, but I won't get rid of them. I'm a pack rat.
  • MARK%21MARK! September 2005
i got rid of my nirvana cds a year back or so.. they were a reminder of my primary school years, but i'm sure whatever i bought with the money i got from them was better than them being on my shelf
  • RCSoulRCSoul September 2005

Yeah, I could probably get a slew of CDs that I'd actually listen to if I got rid of the ones that never leave my shelf. But, I just can't part with them. Mostly on the off chance that one day I'll actually want to listen to them and they won't be there. Stupid, yeah I know.

I'm still listening to Cursive. I didn't mention that The Recluse might be one of my favorite songs ever. I'm also listening to Forgotten Citizen's new CD.
  • ColersColers September 2005
Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All...Amazing album.

Now imagine listening to radio in Seattle. I love all the "Seattle" bands, but I'm pretty much sick of every Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Candlebox, Pearl Jam single ever put out. I'm not joking when I say that you can find a Nirvana song somewhere on the radio here every 15 minutes.
  • RCSoulRCSoul September 2005
Your quote made me realize a slip up in my post. But, that must suck. I hate hearing the same shit over and over again. That's why I rarely listen to the radio.

i don't listen to the radio. but if i did, the only thing you'd ever here by soundgarden is black hole sun every now and then.. maybe spoonman on rare occasion, and jesus christ pose once a year... none of the others. therefore i can still listen to superunknown (easily in my top 5 of all time) on a somewhat regular basis

A Whisper In The Noise - Through The Ides of March
    Dredg - El Cielo

    Aconite thrill - Recliner

still my fav album of 04

Theprp posted this band on the learning curve that I'm digging like Lara Croft (get it, cuz she's Tomb Raider, and tombs are underground, so you gotta dig 'em up? It's like a triple-layer pun). Ironically, it's not the band they advertised as similar to dredg and mars volta, two bands I love.

I'm listening to Goodbye Blue Monday

Not a big fan of the name though. They should change it to Triple Layered Pun.

That would be Facing New York. I had already heard of those guys before The Learning Curve. I wouldn't compare them to the Mars Volta or Dredg, since I don't think they have a lot in common, but I dig them.

EDIT - And this is how I heard of them: http://www.theprp.com/reviews/facingnewyork.shtml

I thought the same thing. But then they were the only other band that wasn't 'metal,' so I gave them a shot.

Upon more listens though, the singing is kind of weak. The music is good though. Reminds more of Muse + Pretty Girls Make Graves.
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
    I've been listening to:

    Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness: Disc 1 (Disc 2 blows)
    Hive - Devious Methods
    Alice In Chains - Unplugged
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
It's been three days, so I think it's safe not to just edit that last post. I've been listening to:

    Wintersleep - S/T & Untitled
Untitled is definately in my top 5 of the year.

Mindless Self Indulgence - Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy
This might be the most useless album ever created. It said on the packaging: "Be the first on your block to throw this new CD away!" All that being said, this record is awesome.

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
If you don't know or have not heard any Jeff Beck, shoot your parents, possibly your grandparents (if they're young enough to have been young when he came around), and all the DJ's at your local classic rock and rock stations for not tuning you into any good old shit and then pick up this CD. He wrote a lot of good tunes, but none are better than any contained on this record. You can hear why he's one of the greatest guitarists that has ever lived. Besides, how can you pass on a CD that has a song called Constipated Duck? Also, the 2001 reissue version (which is the only one you can get on CD as far as I know) was produced by none other than Bruce Dickinson, whom you know puts on his pants just like the rest of us, except when his pants are on he makes gold records. He's the cock of the walk, baby!

    Muse - Absolution
I don't know what to say about this one, but I feel I should because I did about everything else . . . It's Muse . . . They're pretty good . . . Not one of my absolute favorites, but I dig them . . . heh, I worked in a form of the album title . . . awesome . . . Origin of Symmetry is better than this one.
  • KiljaedenKiljaeden October 2005
    Junto - Self Titled EP.

Speaking of Junto, Mark, you heading to the show on Friday? I know this is there first gig in like 6 months so I was figuring you might be going.
  • MARK%21MARK! October 2005
i'm working. i didn't miss a single gig in like their first 20 ever, but now i've missed quite a few. as soon as i graduate, and can get a day job instead of spending every night a gig is on doing pizza delivery, i'll become a gig whore again
  • tommitommi October 2005
    Ayreon - The Human Equation.

Probably the best prog metal concept album slash rock opera ever. Arjen Lucassen is a really talented musician and the list of singers on this album is pretty impressive (LaBrie, Townsend and especially Ã…kerfeldt topping the list, but most of the less known singers are really good too, especially some of the females and the guy singing the part of "Father" on the song "Loser". He's famous in the prog scene, but none of you have probably heard of him so I won't even bother to spell check his name. He sings in the band "Majestic", if I remember correctly).

    Jeff Buckley - Sketches
  • AerockAerock October 2005
Fiona Apple - worth the wait.
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
    I've been listening to:

Horse the Band - R. Borlax
I love these guys. Their keyboardist puts them over the top, though. I don't think I'd find them as enjoyable if the keys weren't there. I need to get a hold of The Mechanical Hand.

The Grand Silent System - Gift or a Weapon
I love this CD. With a capitol L-O-V-E. I can't thank Mark enough for hooking me up with a copy. I seriously owe you big time, dude.

    Paulson - Variations
Their new CD got pushed back again. Bastards . . .

Nine Inch Nails -The Downward Spiral (Deluxe Edition)
The album so good, I bought it twice. Actually, I have two copies of this album because I'm a ginormous NIN nerd and couldn't live without the bonus CD of stuff that I already have in mp3. If Sinch rereleased Clearing the Channel with a bonus CD, I'd probably buy it again, too. Of course, I've bought Sinch singles with songs that were going to be on the released album, something I've never done for NIN. But, I'm fairly sure that Trent makes more money than Sinch and needs my support less.

minus the bear - highly refined pirates
    circa survive - juturna
outerspace - blood and ashes (just straight out dope)
    daughters - canada songs
tonedeff - underscore (the guys flow is ridiculous)
atmosphere - you cant believe how much fun we're having (they're just amazing)
prefuse 73 (highly recommend if you like aphex twin, with a hip-hop sensibility)
madball - legacy (the kings of hardcore, that never stop bringin it)
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
    Sevendust - Seasons & Next
Seasons is my favorite album from these guys. Next is alright, but Clint's absence is really noticable.

Horse the Band - R Borlax & The Mechanical Hand
    These albums are awesome.

    Deftones - B-Sides & Rareties
Mostly covers. Some of the them are really good.

    Facing New York - S/T
I dig these guys. Like a less intense Mars Volta.

    Collective Soul - Blender
I just got to see these guys live last weekend for $7. Better Than Ezra was on before them. I only knew one or two of their songs, but after seeing them, I'm glad I don't know any of their other ones. Even the songs I knew just sounded like bad covers. They were awful. Worst band ever. Of course, this made Collective Soul seem that much more incredible. Their first song sounded like the best song I've ever heard. Tommy Lee hosted the event. Is he aware that he's white and each time that I see him that he looks more and more like a herion addict?

  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005

    "MARK!":

Really? I thought it was a pretty natural progression from Home and dug it on first listen. Home is pretty good, but it's always sounded really rushed to me, which is probably because it was. Some of those songs never really go anywhere. My favorites on that album are the ones where the collaborated with other artists like the one with Skin and the one with Chino. It seemed like a lot more time went into those ones than the other tracks on the record.
  • MARK%21MARK! October 2005
i actually think its very consistent. i like how the songs just get to the point, and are memorable. animosity was too much commercial choruses at first, but eventually it seemd cool
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
I agree that they starting working in a more radio friendly sound during Animosity, but I think it worked in their favor. Clint learned a lot about harmony vocals, which he took to a new level with Seasons.
