Perusing this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_in_music#Albums_set_to_be_released_in_2010) and off of the top of my head I'm looking forward to new albums from:

    Sinch
    lostprophets
    Coheed and Cambria
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
Deftones (even though I probably won't like it)
    Dr. Dre

    "RCSoul":

    Sinch
    Tool
    Wintersleep

I'm looking forward to these as well. Also looking forward to the new Woven Hand release, even if they have been going downhill with the last few records...

Here's a little taste of Woven Hand to those who haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIpEBedOVNA (not the best representation of what they're like, but one of my favorite songs from them and one of my favorite ballads ever too)
  • paparoachsterpaparoachster December 2009

I never heard anything about it, either. But, it was on that Wikipedia list. Wikipedia is not always 100% accurate, so there's a chance they're not working on anything and the list is filling us with false hope.

    Radiohead
    Sinch
    Tool
    Wintersleep
    Chili Peppers
    Deftones
    Cold
Incubus- even though I probably won't like it.

I just barely got in to Radiohead this year and I feel like an idiot. They've been around for nearly 20 years and I just got into them this year. I literally listened to nothing but Radiohead from February to August. I've got every album now and I can't wait for the new one.

I picked up Welcome to the Night Sky by Wintersleep and that's the best album they've made so far. They incorporated some new styles. I loved it.

  • RCSoulRCSoul December 2009
It's not a year in music unless there's a Tupac record released. Dude has more hours of posthumous music than there is in a year. I did no research for that statement, but I'm pretty sure it's a fact.
  • paparoachsterpaparoachster December 2009
taproot and cypress hill still putting out albums?

    lol@tupac
  • discrepancydiscrepancy February 2010
    Sinch
Dead Letter Circus (just received newsletter stating they have finished it! - but no release date yet)
MM9 - The Air Between (rel: March 12)
Tool (rumours that Tool themselves have started - I doubt it will come out this year)
    Mondo Cane
    Fantomas
    The Dillinger Escape Plan
    Deftones
    Interpol
    Nine Inch Nails ????
    Radiohead
    Andy Clockwise
    The Red Paintings
  • AerockAerock February 2010
Didn't know the red paintings were working on something. Seems every EP they put out is wildly different, but usually not to my liking. I liked Walls and I liked a couple songs from Feed The Wolf but it seems that either they don't want to make any of the same style of music, or he hasn't figured out what he wants to make yet.
  • RCSoulRCSoul February 2010
Just found out Foxy Shazam is putting out a record this year. I'll be looking foward to that one. I dig those guys.
  • dandan February 2010
Has anyone checked out the new Meshuggah live CD/DVD? It's technically not really new since it's just live versions of existing songs, but I'm wondering how the live footage is. They seem like the kind of band where it would be easy to fuck up a live recording. The only time I've ever seen them live was before I really listened to them so I didn't really know what I was listening to.

Did you see them open for Tool?
  • tommitommi February 2010
I'm really looking forward to this release as well:

Just found out about it a few days ago. Don't really follow any release schedules or rumors anymore...
  • MARK%21MARK! February 2010
hmm.. shares title with track off Amorphisms.
  • AerockAerock February 2010
Yeah I'm pumped as a fucking balloon for the new red sparowes. They have a date in April that I'll definitely attend. They're awesome live.
  • RCSoulRCSoul February 2010
Somehow I've avoided listening to Red Sparowes all this time. I downloaded a bunch of stuff from them last night. I'll throw it on my iPod sometime this weekend and give it a listen.
  • elvato87elvato87 February 2010
Somehow I missed Leimotif by Dredg until this week and HOLY SHIT that CD kicks ass. Matt, good call on Oceansize, that's a badass CD too.

You and Rob were right. Listened to Mars Volta and it's pretty decent.Still need a few more listens but it's good. I love that song Eriatarka. The whole CD is like one continuing track which is awesome. In some ways it's almost like a modern day pink floyd.

Can't wait for the new Radiohead.

That's a little surprising as much as all of us rave about those guys. I agree that that album kicks ass.

The album definitely has a classic rock feel to me. I can't remember if I said this in my decade list, but I hear a lot of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and a little Santana thrown in there.

    "elvato87":

Yeah, those guys are awesome. After last.fm recommended them to me, half of the forum assured me I would like them and they weren't wrong. I'm more partial to their newer stuff than Matt, but you really can't go wrong with any of their records. They're all good.
  • AerockAerock February 2010
It doesn't surprise me too much anymore when someone posts how they've never checked out Album ABC by Band XYZ after N years of it being raved about on the forum. I remember not even getting into Karnivool until last year, despite all the Aussies and some of the Americans on here talking it up since the beginning of the old forum. dredg are the same way, and I bet there's going to be something I check out next year that Rob or tommi or someone has been talking up for the last 7 years and threaten my life for not checking it out before.

I still am. Most times I go out of my way to get people to listen to things. I put together those decade samplers recently, I used to mail mix CDs to people for free, and I'm always offering to send any album to anybody.

I'm not really sure why I'm always trying to pimp out music to people. I think it's because I love listening to new music, but I'm lazy and prefer when people just give me new stuff and I don't have to go out of my way to remember to find it and think that maybe people are the same way.

    "Aerock":

Their name probably didn't help. I saw that name and just wrote them off as crappy nu-metal. It wasn't until Mark threw a song on one of his samplers that I decided to give their first record a chance.

Tommi might be more likely, but for me the percentages are probably 70/30 in favor of me not remembering ever mentioning it to you. I think I'm on my way to early Alzheimer's.
  • tommitommi February 2010
I'm really lazy to check out new music, even if it's made as easy as possible. I still need time to properly listen to it. I can't use new stuff as background music. Sometimes I find some music that's been lying around on my HD, possibly even my iPod, for years, that I never really listened to (except for the first "quickie") and fall in love with it.

Latest example would probably be Fleet Foxes. I downloaded their LP and EP back when they were released (or around that time), gave them a quick listen, forgot about them for a long time... then, one day in November, I went to my friends place after an ISIS gig, just to hang out and have a few more beers and he just puts his whole iTunes library on shuffle. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song just happened to come on, and I thought it sounded really really good and wondered why I hadn't been listening to it more, even though I knew I had it as well. Now I really love those guys.

I also think that we've had this discussion before...

I'm finally listening to that. I'm reviewing and preparing for an interview tomorrow, so I have a few hours to dedicate to music. After today, I'll be able to have given your favorite music of the last decade a fair chance and won't have to be like "oh yeah, I still haven't checked out Day Without Dawn at all, I should do that," because that's true now.

You should really listen to the entire Day Without Dawn album straight through in one sitting. I can send you the whole record if you want.
  • MARK%21MARK! February 2010
I listen to it at least once per week

    "MARK!":

I've calmed down a bit with my constant listening to it. I probably only pull it out once a month now. It's definitely still in my rotation, though. I think you and I are the only people listening to it on here. The rest of these guys hate awesome music.

Now that we've been talking about the album, I'm definitely listening to it tonight.

Day Without Dawn - Understanding Consequences
  • elvato87elvato87 March 2010
Just got Day Without Dawn and loved it. Also picked up the new Gorillaz CD. May take a few more listens to get into it, but not as good as Demon Days.
  • MARK%21MARK! March 2010
Rob did you pre-order the postman syndrome cd?

What?!?!?!?! I didn't even hear about it! I'm gonna have to get on that when I get home today. I NEED that album!

EDIT - I pre-ordered it. Thanks for the heads up, Mark! I probably would have missed that.
