The Sinch Forum is back! It looks a lot different but all posts and users were imported from the old forum so everything should be right where we left it.
What should we add to this site?
  • dandan October 2005
Which of these possible site features interest you the most? Some of them are currently "in the works" and others are still in the "yeah, maybe we should think about doing that" stage. All of them are possibilities, but we'd like to know what people actually want to see. If there's something everyone's into we can work on getting that up first.

    Sinch Blog
Everyone should probably know what a blog is by now. If you don't here's a good example:
    http://blaggblogg.blogspot.com

    And here's a bad example:
    http://eaba-sightings.blogspot.com/
Hey, I just don't find a list of bird signtings to be that interesting. Maybe you're into it.

Anyway, it's like that only different. We'd be posting a ton of stuff, mostly not band related but hopefully interesting/funny/worth reading/etc. Right now we end up emailing stuff back and forth so we figured why not post it on the site for everyone to see.

    Sinch.tv
This is a totally different site, so I'm not sure it counts as something to "add to the site" but whatever. It will be more interactive and experimental than the main site. The first thing we have planned is to release the video stuff we were planning on putting out on DVD.

You can see what we have so far (not much) here: http://www.sinch.tv

    Chats with band members
Pretty self-explanitory. We can all LOL and ROFL each other and then BRB and j/k!.

    MP3 of the week
We have a ton of unreleased stuff that we're thinking of giving away on a weekly basis. Lots of live recordings and demos, and we might even dip into the Strychnine and Diatribe tracks if people are into that as well. Each track will be available for one week and then it will be replaced by a new one.

    New design
A completely new design for the site. We'd also be rearranging the content... getting rid of some stuff, adding some other stuff. It's a pretty big project.

    Promotional Tools
This would be stuff like banner ads and other tools to give fans something to use to help promote Sinch. There would be detailed instructions on how and where to use everything and possibly a system for keeping track of who is doing the promoting...

    My Own Suggestion
Got a better idea? Let us know...
  • AerockAerock October 2005
My Own Suggestion = all of those. I would read up on blogs, sinch.tv sounds pretty interesting, I think we'd all enjoy chats with band members, you know how we feel about unreleased material. As long as the new design has good usability/accessibility, (maybe a black background again), I'd be fine. Also, I would definitely put some promotional stuff up around Washington when you come out here.

This just came to me, and it's a stupid idea, but it might be interesting (and stupid). You remember lividtron? It'd be sweet if it was re-coded to almost act like a server. Then the clients (us) could join in on any time, and we could play around with songs that you have available at the time. Rotate, keep them the same, whatever. So at some given time, instead of one Jay Smith online, it'd be like 4 or 5 n00b Jay Smiths-in-training. It's a cool interactivity thing and it has everything to do what Sinch represents to us.

The minor problem of coding it to do that would take a lot of work. Like, a lot of work. Maybe in a year or so I'll have the tools and the know-how and do it myself, call it a Senior Project.

Sweet idea. Too bad I already thought of it! Ha!

Seriously though, that would be pretty cool. And you're right. It would take a lot of work. I've been planning on doing a new version that would add some of the new Flash 8 functionality (Effects, Blending Modes, etc) and also allow people to easily add their own video clips.

To do something like what you're talking about would be more of a Flash Communication Server app. You can do a lot of cool stuff with it... there are a lot of online, multiplayer flash games based on it. This would be the same thing except instead of a game.. it's a multiplayer video editor... a MMORGB or something.

I don't have a lot of experience with that kind of stuff but would really like to learn more about it. Unfortunately that just means it's going to take longer. Not only do I have to do all the actual coding and design work and stuff, but I have to completely learn the Flash Communication Server stuff too.

And that's all on top of the other 200 things I'm currently working on.

Needless to say, I wouldn't expect to see anything happening on that anytime soon. Don't rule it out though. maybe I'll win the lottery and have some more free time on my hands... I've been meaning to play these numbers... 4 8 15 16 23 42.

  • MARK%21MARK! October 2005
well, add the new video clip for download instead of stream so i can abuse my broadband at uni
  • RCSoulRCSoul October 2005
I'd like to see all of those things implemented as well, but I guess if I have to pick one that I'd want to see first, it's the MP3 of the Week.

woo! i just always tried the big pic link on the front page, and the stream thing there never worked. i'll download it tuesday :)

i got anm idea - how about a "donate money to sinch so they can tour section" with a running tally of how much has been donated. the city (wherever in the world that may be) that donates the most, gets visited first by the band (as long as enough has actually been raised for it to be feasible). of course, that whole concept wouldn't work and about $10 would be raised, but its a cool concept :P

You know, I've actually thought about that. I was thinking of it more along the lines of giving people a direct way of supporting us if you're not into buying CDs or going to shows or whatever. There are a lot of people who refuse to buy CDs anymore. I don't really understand that kind of thinking, but that's their choice. I understand not wanting to support major labels, but we're on a small indie label and aren't getting ripped off the way a lot of other bands are. When you buy Clearing the Channel, a good amount of that money goes to us. So for anyone who downloaded the album and didn't pay for it, it would be a way to throw us a little bit of money and still support the band. If you want to.

For what its worth though, our new album has been declared "safe" by the RIAA Radar website:

    http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa/search.asp

    Search for "Sinch"

Interestingly enough, our self titled album has a big "Warning" on it. Go figure.
  • MARK%21MARK! October 2005
i don't get why people don't want cds any more, i still much prefer them over an mp3.
but apart from that.. it gives you the opportunity to make money, form people like me who already own the cd, and can't get to a gig, who want to support you further without doing stupid things like buying extra copies of cds. And this way, it gives you straight out profits - like cds, gigs, t-shirts, and merch, theres costs involved, its not like you are getting every cent of what the person pays, but with this scheme you do.

Yeah, it's helpful if you want to make sure you're supporting artists who actually get a decent cut of their album sales (like us!!)

Unfortunately too many people these days don't realize its a complex issue and just assume that no bands ever make money from album sales. If all the people that downloaded our album (based on rough estimates of p2p traffic) we would have sold 2-3x the amount we have so far, which, at our level, makes a *huge* difference.
  • MARK%21MARK! October 2005
we could always trck down those people, steal all their money, then donate it to sinch
  • AerockAerock October 2005
This should probably go in the Suggestions/Comments forum, but who reads that?

You were talking about updating the band bio. I think you should use this as the basis for it

    http://thehollow.swarmtheory.com/bandbio.asp

"First there was darkness, then there were drumsticks. Dan was put on this earth shortly thereafter to wield these musical weapons of God to vanquish hope held by humans. If you're too close to him, you will literally shit yourself to death; I'm not even fucking kidding you."
  • TonyTony October 2005
Fucking ridiculous! Use this for me,

"Tony was genetically engineered to be the finest musician on our planet. His guitar playing is honed to extreme precision. He's a mutant whose skill and determination are only surpassed by his genius. Tony creates the massive soundscapes that define the sound of Sinch. From crystal clean tortures to crunchy rhythms, rounded off with jaw-dropping leads, Tony is guitar in its purest form."

    I AM guitar!

You could always make a stand-alone program in C++ or Java... Let's face it, if you're looking to make a server utility you could write on in about 200 lines in C++ (although I don't know much about Java). The clients would harness that pain-in-the-ass that is DirectX -with all of the DirectSound functions utilised... With that you could even write a simple scripting language that allows you to make composite functions of the less complex ones...

I know you're trying to integrate it into the website, but a decent C++ program -in my mind- would work so much better and be more personal to the user, than a flash program... Although if you're looking for an easily accessible community my take is stupid...

As for the numbers : DO IT... Although I don't want something bad to happen -like your house spontaneously combusting- it would be hilarious if you won! Anyone else thing Season 2 of Lost isn't as great as you expected?
  • tjland84tjland84 January 2006
Tour dates ....preferable ones that come back to new orleans
  • OriwaOriwa February 2006
I think it'd be cool with some chat, not just to the band members, but just a chat. Everone should could join it, include the band members o'course.
Then you guys could post on the website, whenever some of the band members would be online on the chat.
  • tsnuftsnuf February 2006
chat would be cool, but need to build up the board population first, i'd think.

by the way, i'm liking the two new things already, sinch blog and sinchcast... looking forward to monday!

How does this thread have over 4000 views and only 23 people took the time to vote? I mean, we have no problem building a site without knowing what people actually want... but it would be nice to build the site with the kind of stuff that our fans actually want.

I know this a little old and we already added some of this stuff, but we're in the process of redesigning the site right now -- so now's the time to be heard if there's anything you'd like to see.

Maybe I should start a new thread...
